About Me

I’m a programmer, web developer and consummate geek.  I’ve been programming for longer than I can remember from early beginnings hacking and writing my own games for my Acorn Electron from the age of 8.  Ever since then I’ve been programming on a variety of languages and operating systems from various versions of Windows, Amiga OS, OS/2.

I have an interest in design, and I’m capable at drawing although my website design skills aren’t anywhere honed as my website development skills are.  Currently I specialise in a combination of PHP, JavaScript (JQuery) and I’m playing around with as much HTML5 and CSS3 as I can.  I love frameworks; the open-source and OOP ethos, and I love to learn and be challenged with new things.

I work for a company near Kendal called Changing Horizon where I currently pursue my passion for code, but as any true programmer will attest, I also dabble in my own time.

I’m close to being intermediate level in Japanese, although I’m not quite at the level of comfortable conversation yet.  I’m aiming to be fluent in written and spoken Japanese though.  I have an interest in other cultures and psychology and like to find ways of relating human psychology with the nature of language and the dynamics of the internet and human evolution generally.

I’m lucky to have a wonderful partner who’s been more supportive than I could ever hope for and to whom I am engaged to be married next year.

My philosophy is to live life the best way that you can.  Never lament or regret past decisions, and never count anything as a failure.  All of life is a learning experience, and the most we can hope for is to enjoy as many moments as possible and to make the most of what we have.
